The Title means The Flowers of The Male in French, an allusion to the collection of poems Les Fleurs du Mal (The Flowers of Evil) written by Charles Baudelaire.
Inspired by the urban legend that girls are born from roses and boys from cabbages, the project explores absurd answers given to children to the question of the origin of babies but also to the taboo related to intimacy. A patriarchal and binary way of reinforcing gender stereotypes, shaming sexual explorations, hiding and repressing the anatomy of women, while depicting the sexual act as a unique role of procreation.
This series illustrates with humour and poetry this sexualised nature, between women and men, from creation to self-discovery and pleasure. Thus, the subject refers to the notion of hermeticism and not to suffering as the definition of flowers in the other segment of the title would suggest.
