Bio & Statement
Lena Bühler (b. 2000, Zürich, CH)
Based in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Lena is a lens-based artist using digital tools such as scanning and photography, while experimenting the sculptural aspect of it. She creates visual stories based on her memory with souvenirs and dreams. The narratives are more reflective than declaring. She memorizes moments and thoughts into calm and melancholic images that echo with the viewer. In her work, she is exploring through a poetic angle the complexity of feelings to transcribe it into a fragment of life, still and quiet.
This slow process of the past allows her to keep a certain distance from reality and to center her work around ideas of intimacy & sensitivity. By treating themes like isolation, mental health and fears, her photographs reflect a fascination for the human nature within its environment. Blurry impressions, fading figures and luminous landscapes captivate her. She is sharing visuals that are as gentle as they are impactful. Photography is a unique language that allows her to express the invisible, to talk about what is internal and sometimes too painful.
